The Bald Soprano

by Eugène Ionesco

Directed by Alexandru Dabija

Mr and Mrs. Smith debate upon trivial things, failing in fact to establish communication. The Martins arrive and realize, during a debate which is just as senseless, that they are married to each other. Their dialogue is gradually replaced by meaningless utterances, by words, and ultimately by sounds. This dramatic debut of Ionesco, focusing on the absurdity of our daily existence and routine, is the most staged play in contemporary universal theatre.
