The 8th edition of the Eurothalia European Theatre Festival will be held this autumn at the German Theatre

21 June 2022

After a 5-year pause, we are pleased to announce that a new edition of the European Theatre Festival Eurothalia will be held this autumn. The theme of this year's edition, which will be taking place from 21-29 September 2022, explores the different kinds of CONFRONTATIONS – confrontations with history, with family, with ourselves, confrontations with our partners, with the present, with progress.

The selected performances will take place at the Palace of Culture, in the German Theatre Hall and in the Studio Hall of the Hungarian Theatre. This year's selection is undertaken by Andrea Wolfer and Rudolf Herbert, and it reflects the affective dimensions of given facts, and statistics that echo within our common European understanding of contemporary events. Eurothalia 2022 sets the premise of confrontation as an act of acknowledgement. Breaking the barriers of language, the festival explores innovative dimensions of language. With a program developed to confront the audience with inter-generational world views, relational dynamics, the feeling of restlessness that comes with creative and artistic approaches, historical facts and voices and the role they play using the emancipatory power of theater.

Since its first edition in 2009, the Eurothalia Festival has been exploring innovative trends of the European performing arts, presenting in Timișoara diverse theatrical forms such as contemporary drama or classical texts staged in a contemporary style, documentary theatre, dance theatre, or theatre with socio-political stakes, animation theatre or puppet theatre.

We'll be back soon with more details!

The European Theatre Festival Eurothalia is part of the program Timișoara 2023 - European Capital of Culture and is funded by Timișoara City Hall.
