The play was written in just a few months, while Pascal Rambert was staging simultaneously on several continents. As the author points out, it is a fiction, even if the actors and actresses of the GSTT provided the material for it: memories, experiences, dreams. Mostly these were linked to the profession, because the stage is the centre of life. One bulrush should be pronounced here: theatre, like other artistic pursuits, cannot be done on the side. Seen in this light, everyone shares the experience that there are no boundaries between life on stage and the supposedly private. At the same time, however, this unites them and makes theatre a family affair in a certain sense. All the more so when, as in the case of the GSTT, the middle and younger generations have passed through the hands of the older ones. Looking back on the 70 years of existence of the GSTT, one realises that the history of this German stage in the east of Central Europe, which basically goes back to the 18th century and has had a lot of ups and downs, remains as fragile as it is worth to be protected. Pascal Rambert succeeds in showing the GSTT as a dream ship on which everyone has remained true to the same idea.

The Theatre was created especially for the ensemble of the GSTT and also reflects the role of this institution in the cultural landscape of Timisoara and Romania. Content: At the end of a rehearsal, the actors and actresses prepare the birthday party for a colleague. In the process, memories from distant days surface, they argue and laugh together, love stories begin to unfold, while at the same time everyone takes a look back and realizes how much they have been shaped by their work at the theatre. The production Das Theatre can be seen as a prelude to the 70th anniversary of the GSTT, which will be celebrated in November.

In the case of Das Theater / The Theatre, Pascal Rambert went for a hybrid version. He left certain life stories intact, onto which he grafted fictionalised pieces. The memories of some of the actors are spoken by others. All 26 actors employed by TGST are to be found on stage, sometimes at the same time. In one of the best moments of the show, the actors, who have almost complete freedom of movement, form larger and smaller groups, spread out along and across the entire stage of the Timisoara German & Hungarian. Rambert's sound editing cuts out fragments of dialogue from each group, creating a memorable sense of full use of the playing space (in football, it would be called verticalization).
